Top tips for mystery shopping

Mystery shopping is very successful – all types of companies use it. More than 50,000 mystery shopping sessions take place within the UK every month.

What to know how your competitors compare? Mystery shoppers are frequently assigned to monitor one or two competitors during a specific trading period. They provide essential feedback reporting both negative and positive experiences.

Check out your own customer service operation. Poor customer service impacts on your business. Negative reports can be devastating. Mystery Shoppers can quietly check out service levels and see how they match your required standards.

What can Mystery shoppers do to help your market research?

The answer is simple – everything! Take a look at some of the tasks we have undertaken:

• Monitoring customer service on exhibition stands
• Checking out competitors
• Providing temporary office workers to check out if company mission statements were being followed
• Visiting restaurants and retail outlets and reporting back on their experiences
• Testing cosmetics and other products
• Testing different buying processes to identify which were the most successful

Our mystery shoppers can deal with all kinds of products and services. We had a record company contact us and ask for mystery shoppers to check out buying processes across various music sites. The results enabled them to identify which site was perfect for their business and thus promote that service.

Whatever your industry or service, we can certainly help you.

    What is the Edinburgh Fringe?

    What is the Edinburgh Fringe?

edinburgh fringeThe biggest arts event on the planet is back – the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is renowned worldwide. The Edinburgh streets are filled with thousands of people watching buskers, enjoying the atmosphere and visiting shows held all over the city. And that’s only the visitors! Add in several thousand more performers covering almost any type of creative activity from dance to comedy, interactive art to film and the sheer scale of the event becomes apparent.

Lasting 25 days, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival has been known to host over 53,000 performances of around 3,500 shows in 300 different venues.

Attending and/or participating in the Edinburgh Fringe is much sought after by artistes and performers. It is often an opportunity to spot the stars, discover new talent and enjoy live performances by top names.

It is a far cry from very first Fringe Festival back in 1947. The UK was recovering from the pressures of wartime, and seeking ways of stimulating the economy. The launch of the International Edinburgh Festival was immediately popular, drawing people in from far and wide. Recognising an opportunity, eight local theatre companies decided to try and attract some audiences by providing performances in small venues. The Edinburgh Fringe was born.

The number of events grew rapidly, with its informality appealing to entrepreneurial performers seeking new outlets for their work. No invitations are ever needed to take part. All they have to do is find a venue (which can be anything from a theatre to a garden or pub), create a show, promote it and then give a performance.

Over the years, the Fringe has adapted and changed to match the changing needs of audiences. Shows can be very controversial – attending a Fringe show can be a total surprise as no one (apart from the performers) know just what might be said or done on stage. As a result, it can sometimes seem offensive depending on a person’s viewpoint. Creative freedom is all-important.

Nowadays, potential performers can seek help and advice from the Fringe Co-ordinators – help that is especially welcome when trying to identify venues, promote a show, and find staff to organise seating and any security required.

Hire staff to work at Edinburgh Fringe

Bringing in specialist help from Promotional Staff Scotland is a popular option since they can provide temporary event staff, covid marshals, stewards and even promotional staff to help attract public attention. Getting in touch as early as possible during the planning stage is essential – good staff get booked up quickly at the Edinburgh Fringe!

So what is happening in the Scottish events industry?

So what is happening in the Scottish events industry_So what is happening in the Scottish events industry?

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have kept the “stay at home” message on longer than England, and so with that comes quite different rules, and therefore a difference in the relaxation of rules.

The First Minister is currently urging people to use caution and judgement as the easing of the lockdown rules commence.

The new rules (phase one, starting end May 2020) mean that people from two households can meet outside so long as they keep at least two metres apart. Sport is starting the benefit from the easing of the lockdown rules – people will also be able to take part in some non-contact sports, including golf, tennis, fishing and bowls, with the new season of the SPFL due to start at the end of July.

      And Scottish conferences/live events?

A great place to start is from the visit Scotland website https://www.visitscotland.org/events

The Scottish Government have a four phase process for moving Scotland slowly through the pandemic, events featuring in phases three and four. In all phases, the following rules need to be adhered to:

      • Physical distancing requirements in place (WHO guidance is 1m, UK is 2m)
      • regular handwashing and hygiene in place
      • Cough protocol is considered
      • Face masks for enclosed public spaces, including public transport

In phase three the virus has been suppressed. But there is still a focus on containing sporadic outbreaks. In this phase live events may be able to take place with restricted numbers and physical distancing restrictions in place.

In phase four (COVID-19 remains suppressed to very low level) large-scale events and mass gatherings could resume in line with public health advice.

We’ve also looked into some of the largest conference centres and their plans for the rest of 2020.

Scottish Event Campus and have temporarily converted their space to an NHS hospital for the time being, delaying and cancelling number of conferences. The earliest conferences will be re-instated (dependent on phase 4) is August 2020.

P&J Live have also postponed and cancelled conferences, and this is indefinite.

Edinburgh International Conference Centre are promoting events from September 2020

However, as with all phases, the Government cannot give a firm date for when we will move from one phase to another, so let’s just hope that the industry is back on it’s feet in September, with physical distancing and rules in place so people can safely enjoy conferences and live events once again.

            The Edinburgh Fringe Festival

the edinburgh fringeThe Edinburgh Fringe Festival – Promoting Creative Freedom

August in Edinburgh is a special time, especially for those who make the journey to the city to be part of the spectacle that is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Billing itself as the “single biggest celebration of arts and culture on the planet”, last year the 25-day festival featured 53,232 performances of nearly 3,400 shows in 300 venues.

1947, the start of what we know as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

The International Edinburgh Festival was held in the city just after the way and eight local theatre companies decided to take advantage of the thronging crowds by giving performances in smaller venues.

One of these theatre companies performed a version of the play Everyman, a play that mentions ‘the fringe’ several times hence say fans why the festival is known as The Fringe, at Dunfermline Abbey, 20 miles north of the city.

Not recognised as the first Edinburgh Fringe until some years later, this inaugural event gave rise to traditions that remain true today – the lack of invitation to perform and the use of unlikely venues.

            “Unjuried”

Bigger than ever, but still as vibrant, the Edinburgh Fringe festival still retains its principle of it not being an invite-only performance festival.

Backed by its organising body, the festival offers year-round advice to performers who wish to bring their creative expression to the festival.

Hence, people who have never performed in public before can share a stage with some of our best-known performers.

But if you think this sounds like a recipe for chaos, you’d be wrong! The festival organising committee is responsible for putting together a programme, a mammoth task considering the number of people performing, the varied talent and performances on offer, as well as the many, many venues used throughout the three-week festival.

            Morphed, grown and responded

As a festival, the Fringe must surely be the only real example of a festival that has truly morphed, changed and responded to changes in society.

For example, although it is an open access festival, top shows are still only £10 a seat although most are between £5 and £7. However, there is a mixture of shows and performances, some of which are completely free and others are donations after the show has finished.

But it is a festival that has, from time to time, courted controversy. Performances are uncensored thus, you never really know what will happen until you get there.

There have been problems when performers have contravened what some see as common decency, or when sexuality or religious topics have been discussed in a way that some found offensive.

But that said, whilst the festival has never gone out of its way to be controversial, it insists that creative freedoms and open access remain its mantras.

How Promotional Models Scotland can help?
